We're glad you are considering joining us for one of our Christmas Eve services at Gurnee Community Church. The Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve at GCC is a longstanding tradition that goes back for generations. The two services at 5 and 7pm are identical, and each lasts about an hour. They are designed specifically to connect with people of different generations and different levels of familiarity with a church environment. While the songs we will sing vary from traditional to more contemporary styles, they will all be songs that most are familiar with. There will be a short message specifically for the kids, and then the main message will focus on some aspect of the meaning of Christmas. The service always ends with candlelight, where we pass the flame from person to person, representing the passing of the light of Christ from one to another, and we sing "Silent Night" together. We invite you to make the Candlelight Service at Gurnee Community Church a part of your Christmas celebration this year. We look forward to seeing you.
Both services will also be livestreamed HERE.
Our current mask policy is that masks are recommended.
For Families with Children
We have ways for all children to be included. The nursery will be open for children birth through 2 years old. Children 3 years old - 5th grade will receive a goody bag as they enter with games and activities to engage them during the service. We will also have a short children's message. We end with the lighting of candles, which is a favorite for all of the kids. We are a church that welcomes children and are understanding of noises and movements. If at any point you need to step out of the service with your child, we do have a "cry room" available that you can sit in and hear the service.
